Orthodox Christians prayed for this. God answered. The mission grows.
Saints Elizabeth and Barbara watch over us, martyrs who showed mercy and courage. We follow their witness.

Saint Elizabeth the New Martyr of Russia
Grand Duchess and Martyr (1864–1918)
Princess Elisabeth becomes Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna through marriage. Her husband assassinated by revolutionaries, 1905.
Elizabeth forgives the murderer. Embraces God completely. Founds Martha and Mary Convent in Moscow. Serves poor, sick, dying. Builds hospitals, orphanages. Moscow calls her the “Angel of Mercy.”
Russian Revolution comes. Bolsheviks arrest her. She refuses escape. Remains with her sisters.
July 18, 1918. Thrown alive into a mine shaft at Alapayevsk. Falls singing hymns. Comforts fellow martyrs to the end.
Suffering transforms into compassion. Forgiveness defeats vengeance. Mercy defines Christian life.

Saint Barbara the Great Martyr
Virgin Martyr (3rd–4th Century)
Barbara lives in 3rd-century Heliopolis. Her wealthy pagan father Dioscorus locks her in a tower to protect her from Christianity.
Barbara's heart seeks truth. Christians teach her about Christ. She receives baptism secretly. Dedicates her life to God. Refuses all marriage.
Dioscorus discovers her faith. Rage consumes him. He denounces his daughter to Roman authorities.
Torture: beaten with clubs, flesh torn with iron hooks, burned with torches. Barbara refuses to deny Christ. Her father executes her by beheading.
Faith cannot be shaken. Christ worth any cost. True freedom comes from God, not earthly comfort.
