Orthodox Christianity
The Church Christ founded. Unchanged.
The Faith Once Delivered
This is Orthodoxy
Christ establishes His Church. The Apostles spread the Gospel. Martyrs die faithful. Fathers define doctrine. Liturgy sanctifies generations.
2,000 years. One faith. Preserved through persecution, schism, and heresy.
Orthodoxy is not a denomination. It is the original Christian Church, the same faith, the same worship, the same unbroken apostolic succession from the first century to today.
What Sets Orthodoxy Apart
Why Orthodox?
Unchanged
Same Liturgy. Same theology. Same structure. Ecumenical Councils guarded the truth. Time changes nothing essential.
Sacramental
God acts through matter. Water. Bread. Wine. Oil. The physical becomes spiritual. Heaven touches earth.
Theosis
Become like God. Union, not just forgiveness. Transformation, not transaction. βGod became man that man might become god.β
2,000 Years
The Orthodox Story
33 AD β Pentecost
The Church begins. The Apostles preach Christ crucified and risen. The Gospel spreads across the Roman world.
1stβ4th Centuries
Martyrs die for the faith. Fathers write and teach. The Liturgy takes form. Seven Ecumenical Councils define doctrine and guard the truth.
1054 β The Great Schism
Rome separates from the other ancient patriarchates. Orthodoxy continues in the East. The ancient faith is preserved.
16th Century
Protestant reforms split the Western church. Orthodoxy remains untouched and unchanged.
Today
A global faith. Mission parishes in Australia and around the world. The same Gospel. The same Eucharist. The same Church.
Orthodox Doctrine
What We Believe
Trinity
One God. Three Persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Christ
Fully God. Fully Man. Two natures, one Person.
Incarnation
God becomes man. Divinity united to humanity.
Resurrection
Death defeated. We rise with Christ.
Church
Christ's Body. Spirit-guided through history.
Theosis
By grace, become what God is by nature.
Sacraments
God meets us through water, bread, wine, oil.
Tradition
Scripture, Fathers, Councils, Liturgy. Living transmission.
Understanding the Differences
How We Differ
Orthodox & Catholic
We share ancient roots. Key differences: no papal supremacy in Orthodoxy. Different theology of salvation. Married priests are the norm. Both species in Communion always. No Purgatory. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father alone.
Orthodox & Protestant
The Reformation reformed the West. Orthodoxy preserved the East. Holy Tradition alongside Scripture, not Scripture alone. Sacramental worship, not sermon-centred. Apostolic succession unbroken from the Apostles themselves.
Orthodox Worship
Heaven on Earth
Icons, windows into heaven. Incense, prayers rising. Candles, the light of Christ. Singing, angelic worship. Standing, the posture of the Resurrection. Every sense engaged. Body, soul, and mind united. Heaven descends. Earth ascends. God present.
